Cardinal Prevost from the United States was elected as the new Catholic Pope

PANews reported on May 9 that according to Xinhua News Agency, American Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost was elected as the 267th Pope of the Catholic Church in the Roman Pope Election, known as Leo XIV. Prevost was born on September 14, 1955 and will serve as a cardinal in 2023. The 133 cardinals of the College of Cardinals began a secret vote on the 7th to elect a new pope. The previous pope Francis died of illness on April 21 this year.

US President Donald Trump congratulated Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost on his appointment as Pope, calling him the first American pope and looking forward to meeting Pope Leo XIV.
