Bitfinex hack participant Ilya Lichtenstein to be released early from prison.

PANews reported on January 3 that, according to The Block, Ilya Lichtenstein, who admitted to participating in the attack on cryptocurrency exchange Bitfinex, said she will be released early and thanked President Donald Trump for the criminal justice reform bill passed in 2018.

In 2024, Ilya Lichtenstein was sentenced to five years in prison for her involvement in the 2016 Bitfinex hack, on charges including conspiracy to launder money and conspiracy to defraud the U.S. government. Shortly afterward, her wife, Heather Morgan, was also sentenced, but prosecutors stated that she played a minor role in the money laundering conspiracy.
