Duolingo Chinese learning users surge 216% as US users flock to Xiaohongshu

PANews reported on January 16 that according to TechCrunch, due to the ban of TikTok on January 19 , American users have turned to the Chinese social platform RedNote (Little Red Book) on a large scale. This migration has triggered cultural exchanges between Chinese and American users, and has also driven a surge in Duolingo's Chinese learning users. According to data, the number of Chinese learning users among newly registered users in the United States increased by 216% year-on-year, which was particularly evident after the RedNote craze in mid-January.

Duolingo's report shows that the proportion of "TikTok" in the source survey of its new users has increased significantly. At the same time, Duolingo took advantage of the opportunity to release humorous videos on TikTok to promote Chinese courses, and the number of likes for its related videos exceeded 500,000. Data shows that Duolingo's app downloads in the United States have increased by 36% recently, and its rankings in the App Store and Google Play have risen significantly.
