Apple plans to launch AI smart glasses by the end of 2026 and abandon camera watch project

PANews reported on May 23 that according to Bloomberg, Apple plans to release a pair of smart glasses equipped with a camera, microphone and speaker in late 2026, which will be able to execute voice commands through Siri. The device will have functions such as analyzing the environment, making calls, playing music, real-time translation and navigation, and is seen as a product that competes with Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses. At the same time, Apple has canceled the plans for the Apple Watch and Apple Watch Ultra with cameras, which were originally scheduled to be launched in 2027, but is still developing AirPods with cameras. According to reports, Apple's ultimate goal is to develop glasses with augmented reality (AR) display capabilities, but such devices will still take several years.

The project is led by the Vision Products Group, which developed the Vision Pro headset, and is currently simultaneously promoting a lightweight version of the headset that connects to a Mac. Apple also plans to launch its first foldable phone by the end of 2026 and open its large language model API to promote the construction of the App Store AI ecosystem.
