Altman says OpenAI will appeal New York Times' request to retain all user conversation data

PANews reported on June 6 that according to a statement on OpenAI's official website, the New York Times asked the court to force OpenAI to retain all ChatGPT user chat records and API customer content "indefinitely" in its lawsuit. In response, CEO Sam Altman said that this move "seriously deviates from the user privacy commitment" and emphasized that the company has filed an appeal and will "firmly oppose any request that undermines user privacy." OpenAI said that the affected users are non-enterprise ChatGPT and API users who have not signed the "zero data retention" agreement. The data will be encrypted and stored and only accessible to the legal team.
