PANews reported on May 30 that according to Decrypt, the U.S. Treasury Department imposed sanctions on the Philippines-based Funnull Technology, accusing it of assisting in the "pig-killing" crypto scam. The company provided fake website hosting services, causing U.S. victims to lose more than $200 million, with an average loss of $150,000 per transaction.
The company administrator Liu Lizhi was accused of recording employee performance and allocating fraudulent domain names. The sanctions include freezing assets in the United States and prohibiting business dealings. This is the latest action taken by the United States to combat financial cybercrime. Since October 2024, it has sanctioned Russian hacker groups and other entities.
