Once control is gained, scammers manipulate victims into transferring money, purchasing gold bars, or withdrawing large amounts of cash through Bitcoin ATMs, which are then picked up by couriers. The economic losses caused by a recent incident exceeded $530,000. The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office warned residents not to disclose sensitive information online or over the phone, and urged residents to report any suspicious interactions.
