Charges dropped in Mong Kok gang rape case in Hong Kong: Two mainland men released without confessing, one man's legal costs approved.

PANews reported on April 18 that, according to Hong Kong media Sing Tao Daily, a gang rape case in Hong Kong has seen progress. Two mainland men were charged with sexually assaulting an intoxicated woman in a Mong Kok hotel in November 2025. They had been remanded in custody during the originally scheduled trial. The prosecution recently applied to the West Kowloon Magistrates' Courts to withdraw the charges, which was granted. One of the defendants' application for costs was also approved. The magistrate held that although the two men admitted to having sexual intercourse with the victim, it did not constitute "self-incrimination," and disagreed with the prosecution's objection. The prosecution stated that after further investigation and legal advice, they decided to withdraw the charges, and both defendants have been released.

According to community sources, the two individuals are suspected to be business development (BD) for ME (formerly the blockchain media platform MetaEra).
