It remains unclear whether Iran's latest proposal is sufficient to bring both sides back to the negotiating table. An Iranian source stated that Tehran might consider restarting talks if the US lifts its blockade of Iranian ports and Iran fully reopens the Strait of Hormuz. The US has made it clear that Iran should unconditionally allow any ships to pass through the strait; it is unclear whether Iran's latest proposal represents this concession. The source indicated that Iran remains deeply distrustful of the US and does not understand why the US abandoned dialogue in the previous round of negotiations with Pakistan.
