PANews reported on May 14th, citing Bloomberg, that former Coinbase executive Balaji Srinivasan is attempting to forge closer ties with Malaysian officials by showcasing his Network School project and appealing for policy support. In a closed-door meeting in April, Srinivasan presented the idea of closer cooperation between the Malaysian government and Network School to officials including Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo, and demonstrated a redesigned prototype of the Malaysian visa application platform, proposing a fast-track visa process for Network School residents.
Network School, a project launched by Srinivasan in 2024 and located in Forest City, Johor, Malaysia, has attracted hundreds of tech entrepreneurs. Digital Minister Gobind visited the site and posted that Malaysia was becoming a global destination for tech talent, but later deleted the post. Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim had previously stated his embrace of blockchain and cryptocurrency. Forest City was originally a failed multi-billion dollar real estate development project.
