a16z officially establishes a Seoul office, initially focusing on the crypto space.

PANews reported on June 15th that, according to Chosun Biz, top Silicon Valley venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) has officially opened an office in Seoul. This follows its announcement of its Asian expansion plans last December, approximately six months later. a16z stated that South Korea's global competitiveness, top-tier technical talent, and market acceptance in areas such as AI, manufacturing, defense, encryption, content, and consumer products are the main reasons for choosing Seoul as its strategic location in Asia. The Seoul office will initially focus on the encryption sector, gradually expanding its business scope thereafter.

a16z has a history of early investments in global tech giants such as SpaceX, Instagram, Facebook, and Airbnb. The newly appointed Head of Crypto GTM for Asia Pacific at a16z, Park Sung-mo, will be based in Seoul and, leveraging his experience at Naver and the Monad Foundation, will support a16z portfolio companies in entering the Korean and Asian markets. a16z stated that it will go beyond simple investment, supporting company growth through talent recruitment, business development, policy cooperation, media support, and partner community building.
