Iran Announces New Rules for Passage Through Strait of Hormuz: Application Must Be Submitted 48 Hours in Advance

PANews, June 19 – According to CCTV, Iran’s “Persian Gulf Strait Authority” stated that, in view of the signing of the Iran-U.S. Memorandum of Understanding and the directives of relevant competent authorities, applicants for passage through the Strait of Hormuz are hereby notified: During the announced time period, vessels that submit passage applications as required and meet the relevant conditions will be arranged for passage.

According to the passage requirements issued by the “Persian Gulf Strait Authority,” vessel transit applications must be submitted at least 48 hours before arriving in the Strait of Hormuz area.

The United States and Iran released the official text of the Memorandum of Understanding reached by both sides on the 17th. According to the text, after the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, the U.S. will immediately begin lifting the maritime blockade on Iran, and Iran will make its best efforts to arrange for commercial vessels to transit safely and free of charge between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman within a 60-day period.
