PANews reported on June 23, citing sources familiar with the matter via Blue Whale Finance, that the new-generation Doubao AI phone jointly developed by ByteDance and ZTE has encountered delays in the large model filing and MIIT network access certification process. The initial application was not approved, and after a second application, it remains in the filing stage, with the earliest possible market launch in July or August. On the supply chain side, the screen supplier for the new device has been changed from Tianma to BOE, the battery is supplied by Desay Battery using ATL cells, and the complete device is manufactured by China United Electronics, a subsidiary of Furi Electronics. The report noted that the phone adopts a path of "deep integration of large models into the operating system and cross-application intelligent agents," but the system-level AI Agent faces data permission restrictions from platforms such as Tencent and Alibaba, reflecting a common bottleneck in ecosystem openness for current AI phones.
