Senate Democrats Demand Hearing on Trump Family's Crypto Ties to Abu Dhabi Royalty

PANews, June 24 – According to The Block, senior Senate Democrats have sent a letter to Republican leadership requesting a hearing on the ties between the Trump family crypto venture World Liberty Financial and the Abu Dhabi royal family. Earlier this year, The Wall Street Journal reported that an Abu Dhabi investment vehicle secretly acquired a 49% stake in World Liberty Financial. Half of the $500 million investment was paid upfront, with $187 million flowing to entities controlled by the Trump family. Trump stated he was unaware of the investment and not involved in day-to-day operations. In the letter, five Democratic senators including Elizabeth Warren and Gary Peters said Congress should investigate the details of the investment and whether it influenced Trump's subsequent decisions, adding that Republicans control both chambers and have the authority to decide whether to hold a hearing. Warren and others had previously asked the Treasury Secretary to assess whether the investment requires a national security review. Meanwhile, Congress is advancing the first federal crypto regulation bill, and several Democratic lawmakers have indicated they will not support it without ethics provisions.
