Binance says it will stay in Europe, seeks alternative path for EU license

PANews, June 24 – According to Reuters, crypto exchange Binance still plans to remain in the EU after its application for a new MiCA license in Greece was unsuccessful, and is now seeking other countries as a licensing pathway. Binance’s Head of Europe and UK, Gillian Lynch, stated, “Binance is not leaving Europe,” and if the Greek route fails, it will apply to other regulators. Its current operating license in Europe has only one week of validity remaining; without a new license, it would need to begin an orderly exit from the EU market. Sources familiar with the matter said regulators in Ireland, Latvia, and Greece have reservations due to its past anti-money laundering penalties, complex corporate structure, and a “risk-embracing” culture. Lynch noted that the company has invested heavily in compliance and internal controls, employing around 1,500 compliance staff, and that outstanding issues related to this application have been resolved.
