Polish Police Arrest Suspects for SIM Card Hijacking to Steal Crypto Assets

PANews June 25 news, according to The Block, the Polish Central Bureau for Combating Cybercrime (CBZC), with support from the FBI and HSI, arrested four suspects, accusing them of forming an organized criminal group that carried out SIM swap attacks by hacking into the IT systems of telecom operators' partners, taking control of victims' phone numbers and hijacking their cryptocurrency exchange accounts, stealing and laundering funds. Police said the funds were dispersed and transferred through domestic and foreign personal bank accounts, international payment platforms, and multi-currency digital wallets, with the amount involved estimated at tens of millions of Polish złoty. The four have been remanded in custody pending trial, facing charges including participation in an organized criminal group, hacking theft, and money laundering, with a maximum sentence of up to 25 years.

According to on-chain investigator ZachXBT, among those arrested is suspected to be the Polish social engineering attacker Wojtek Kulisz, known by the alias "Merry".
