ZachXBT: Law enforcement mistakenly detained former Yuga Labs security researcher in 2022 BAYC NFT theft

PANews reported on May 10 that according to Cointelegraph, on-chain detective ZachXBT said that law enforcement mistakenly detained former Yuga Labs security researcher Sam Curry for a 2022 cyber theft that stole about $1.1 million worth of BAYC NFTs. ZachXBT said he had identified the wallet behind the scam and associated it with a now-deleted X account.

In December 2022, an anonymous attacker stole 14 Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs, each of which was trading for approximately $86,000 at the time. Law enforcement then "mistakenly viewed OpenSea's logs, which contained [Curry's] home IP address, and used this to falsely label him as a suspect."
