PANews reported on May 20 that according to Bloomberg, the U.S. Department of Justice has launched a criminal investigation into the recent customer data leak at Coinbase. Hackers bribed Indian customer service employees to obtain user personal information and demanded a ransom of $20 million . Coinbase said the incident may cost up to $400 million to repair. The company said it has proactively reported to law enforcement agencies and is cooperating with regulators in the United States, Britain and other countries to conduct investigations. Coinbase itself is not currently listed as a subject of investigation.
