PANews reported on February 8 that according to The Block, data analysis company Helika said: "The fourth quarter of 2024 is a sobering period for the Telegram ecosystem. After the craze for click-to-earn games peaked at the end of the third quarter, players faced disappointing airdrop results, and traffic and participation in the blockchain ecosystem based on the messaging app fell sharply."
Helika's report shows that "the number of users of the click game "Hamster Kombat" plummeted from 300 million in August to 41 million after the airdrop in November." The team behind "Hamster Kombat" explained: "The 300 million users represent the total number of players, not the monthly active users (MAU). The peak MAU exceeded 155 million." Although "Hamster Kombat" disappointed many users, according to Tonstat data, the TON blockchain has added more than 100 million accounts in the past 12 months, growing from about 6 million to more than 140 million.
Helika said that at the end of last year, user retention rates for Telegram Games were in the low 5% to 20% range, "well below the 20% to 30% benchmark for traditional games." The company added: "As the appeal of easy money has diminished, the number of daily active users/monthly active users (DAU/MAU) of similar apps has declined, and the activity of the entire ecosystem has also decreased." Helika added: "It is worth noting that due to the existence of bots and inflated activity, it can be very difficult to identify the real number of users, especially the number of game players,."
