Hong Kong expands digital RMB application, with nearly 400 convenience stores now supporting e-CNY payments

PANews reported on October 28th that, according to Caixin, Bank of China (Hong Kong) announced a partnership with convenience store chain Circle K and vending machine operator FreshUp. Starting October 27, 2025, over 380 Circle K stores and the first batch of 1,200 FreshUp vending machines in Hong Kong will officially support digital RMB (e-CNY) payments. Hong Kong residents and mainland visitors will be able to use the BoC Pay+ "Digital RMB Zone" or the "Digital RMB" app to make e-CNY payments at these convenience stores and vending machines. Bank of China (Hong Kong) has upgraded the acquiring systems of Circle K and FreshUp and will automatically convert digital RMB into Hong Kong dollars to assist merchants with cross-border settlements.
