A female employee in Xiamen embezzled millions of yuan in company funds, lost it all to cryptocurrency trading, and was sentenced to two years and three months in prison.

PANews reported on January 19th that, according to a statement from the Tong'an District Procuratorate in Xiamen, Guo, an employee of a publishing company in Fujian, abused his position overseeing the ordering and settlement of educational materials by replacing the company's QR code with his personal WeChat account and bank card. Starting in 2024, he embezzled over 1.53 million yuan, all of which he invested in cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, ultimately losing it all. He voluntarily surrendered himself to the police after the case was uncovered in 2025. The court sentenced him to two years and three months in prison for embezzlement and imposed a fine.
