Belarus considers using excess electricity for Bitcoin mining after Trump reserve plan

PANews reported on March 6 that according to Cointelegraph, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has instructed the Minister of Energy to start developing the country's cryptocurrency mining industry, indicating that the country is planning to use its excess energy supply to create additional sources of income. President Lukashenko conveyed this instruction to the new Minister of Energy Alexei Kushnarenko. Lukashenko said in the report: "Look at this mining industry. If it is good for us, we will do it. We have surplus electricity. Let them mine this cryptocurrency."

Lukashenko drew inspiration from the United States, which vowed to become the world's cryptocurrency capital after President Trump was elected. This includes creating a national cryptocurrency reserve consisting of Bitcoin, Ethereum and other altcoins. "You see where the world is going, especially the largest economy in the world. They announced yesterday that they will hold (cryptocurrencies) as reserves," Lukashenko said. Before deciding to study cryptocurrency mining, Lukashenko had just formed a new government and prioritized the transformation of the country's 5,700 kilometers of power grid. "The most important thing is to upgrade the grid infrastructure, taking into account the growth in demand for electricity for households and the economy," Lukashenko said.
