PANews reported on April 14th that, according to Fortune , American Express has launched an agentic commerce toolkit for developers, enabling AI agents to initiate payments on its network. Amex also announced purchase protection for erroneous transactions mistakenly triggered by AI agents registered in its system. Amex stated that its existing dispute resolution and chargeback processes can be extended to AI scenarios, and payment credentials will only be available to verified agents, requiring prior cardholder authentication to reduce merchant disputes and chargeback rates. Regarding calls to use stablecoins for settlement in the agent economy, Amex stated that it is planning various stablecoin solutions, emphasizing their role in clearing and settlement, but did not disclose specific details.
