US media: Iran implements new regulations for the Strait of Hormuz, requiring ships to declare to the Persian Gulf Straits Authority before passage.

PANews reported on May 7th, citing CNN, that a document reveals Iran has established a series of new rules for ships wishing to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, ignoring US warnings and continuing its institutionalized efforts to control the waterway. The document, titled "Ship Information Declaration," was issued by Iran's newly established Persian Gulf Straits Authority (PGSA) and is required for all transit vessels to ensure safe passage. The PGSA document contains over 40 questions, requiring vessels to declare their name, identification number, former name, country of origin, and destination. It also requires declaration of the nationality of the registered shipowner, operator, and crew, as well as cargo details. This information must be submitted via email before transiting the strait. A PGSA email stated that "complete and accurate information is crucial for processing vessel passage applications" and that "the applicant will bear all consequences arising from any errors or incomplete information provided." It is unclear whether any shipping companies have already applied for passage permits from the PGSA. Analysts point out that this move may indicate shipping companies face the risk of US sanctions.
