PANews reported on June 3rd that, according to 9to5Google, Google announced it will allow website publishers to choose whether or not to participate in generative search features such as AI Mode and AI Overviews, without affecting their regular search rankings. Website owners can control whether their content is used to generate AI answers and appear in relevant results via a new toggle in the Search Console. Sites that choose to opt out will no longer receive traffic and impressions from AI results in AI Overviews, AI Mode, and Discover, but will still appear normally in traditional search results and the Discover feed. Google will also provide website owners with new generative search statistics, including the number of impressions in AI answers, the pages involved, and the countries covered. This feature has already begun testing on some sites in the UK and will be rolled out globally later.
Google allows websites to opt out of displaying AI search results.
