PANews, June 22 — According to Reuters, Google, Meta, TikTok, Alibaba, and other tech companies, along with several crypto firms, pledged on Monday to help combat illegal wildlife trade by using AI detection and other methods to identify and remove illegal wildlife product transaction information from their platforms. These companies represent one-fifth of the global e-commerce market and 90% of global social media users. Companies such as Vodafone will use AI on the M-Pesa mobile payment platform for anti-money laundering and transaction monitoring. Crypto and payment companies including PayPal, TRM Labs, Chainalysis, and Luno pledged to cut off related financial flows. A United Nations report states that wildlife trade generates annual revenues of $23 billion, with approximately 1 million species facing the threat of extinction.
