Japanese and South Korean stock markets opened higher on Monday.

PANews reported on January 5th that the South Korean KOSPI index opened 73.77 points higher, or 1.71%, at 4383.4 points on Monday, January 5th. The Nikkei 225 index opened 711.05 points higher, or 1.41%, at 51050.53 points on Monday, January 5th.

Samsung Electronics' stock price rose by more than 4%, hitting a record high.
