PANews reported on December 29th that Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin stated that anyone starting a new AI lab should have "enhancing humanity" as their core mission and explicitly avoid developing systems with more than one minute of autonomous decision-making time. He emphasized that even if all AI safety controversies are proven invalid, companies pursuing fully autonomous ASI (super artificial intelligence) are now rampant, while augmented AI focused on "building a mech for the human brain" remains scarce. He called for such projects to be open-source as much as possible.
Vitalik: AI should focus on enhancing humans rather than achieving full autonomy.
