PANews reported on January 11 that, according to Russian media outlet Rossiyskaya Gazeta, the Russian Social Security Fund, the state-owned agency responsible for managing Russia's public pension system, stated that inquiries about whether pensions can be paid in cryptocurrency have become one of the most frequent non-standard requests it receives. In 2025, its Unified Contact Center received approximately 37 million inquiries, many asking whether pensions could be received in cryptocurrency and whether mining income would be included in social welfare calculations. However, the official response stated that currently all pensions and social welfare benefits are paid only in rubles, and tax issues involving crypto assets (including mining income) are determined and handled by the Russian Federal Tax Service.
Russian citizens are concerned about whether pension payments will be made in cryptocurrency; the official response is that this is not currently being considered.
