South Korea may hold early presidential election on June 3

PANews reported on April 5 that according to Xinhua News Agency, citing reports from multiple South Korean media, South Korea's Acting President and Prime Minister Han Deok-soo had a phone call with the Chairman of the Central Election Commission, Roh Tae-ok, on the same day, and the two had "reached a consensus on designating June 3 as the early election date." The regular cabinet meeting held on April 8 may finally determine the date of the presidential election. Yonhap News Agency and other media reported on the same day that the two sides discussed during the call the issue of holding a new presidential election within 60 days after Yoon Seok-yeol was removed from office, that is, before June 3. According to South Korean law, a new presidential election must be held within 60 days after the president is absent, and the acting president must announce the election date 50 days before the election. According to the website of the South Korean Central Election Commission, the registration of preliminary candidates for the presidential election began on the 4th.
